Who I Am.
I graduated from
Wright State University.
in June, 1999 with a major in Financial Services
. I have a habit of being impulsive and biting off more than I can chew. Which gets me into situations like this. By the grace of God I seem to have been able to handle everything so far.
I work atMorgan Stanley Dean Witter.
It is a very hectic, and not always a fun job, but it is a foot in the door.
I started off in opeartions as a New Accounts Clerk and Wire Operator. Then I got the Promotion to Cashier and then finally to my current position as a Sales Assistant. I handle much of the paperwork for a Vice-President, an Associate Vice-President and 3 Financial Advisors. I am doing all I can to gain experience for my jump into the financial planning world. I could jump into it now by going into the broker program, but I would rater trade the time for experience and a better chance of making it in a very competitive industry.
Here is a link to a recent family photo taken on Mothers Day 1999. It's sad that we haven't had any real photos taken since. We'll get around to it eventually.

I was born in Schenectady, NY to a young woman and a man with long sideburns.
They took me north into the Adiroundak Mountains where the seeds of most of my hobbies were born. I also got an appreciation of the outdoors and nature.
Sailor Matt
In 5th grade I moved to West Palm Beach, FL. Once again an "outdoor" state. Hint: Do you see a pattern arising? I stayed in Florida until I graduated in 1994.
Then I moved to Dayton, OH. Dayton is neat in that it is boring as hell, but right in the middle of everything. In 24 hours, one can drive to Denver, Colorado, West Palm Beach, Florida, or Maine.
Now I live in Houston, Texas. Why Houston? Why not? I have never lived in Texas. My travels through the state tell me that it will be a neat place to live. Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States, and is rated one of the friendliest places to live. The friendliness I can attest to. The driving is what is fun to do down here. Its like Atlanta in the speeds that people drive, but they drive much safer here. There is a lot of traffic, but the highway system is built to handle it. The state routes are wider than most of the interstates here.
And now all the fun begins

As I stated above, I LOVE THE OUTDOORS!!
Before I graduated high school my hobbies were camping and sailing. I pleasure sailed and I raced as a crewmember on J-24's. I ran either the spinnaker or the jib on the J's. Being around water all the time got me into SCUBA diving and windsurfing. I hated windsurfing and I haven't dove in years.
Many of my friends were Geology majors. I was a Geology major for 3 quarters. Unfortunately all of the rocks started looking like quartz and granite to me. That's bad news for a rock major. It wasn't a bad choice.. I figured, ok, pay me for camping and walking around in the woods. The rock thing wasn't for me. However it introduced me to new people and hobbies!
White Water Rafting - It Rocks!
I have been rafting 4 times, the New River 3 times and the Gauley River once. Each time was with
North American River Runners.
North American River Runners and I have not one complaint.
Here are a few photos of 2 of my rafting trips. they are big and may take a little while to download, but are well worth the effort.
The Gauley River. This photo is from my rafting trip down the Gauley River in West Virgina. The photo was taken in 1998 by North American River Runners. One of the coolest things about theGauley River is 12 foot Sweets Falls near the end of the run. This is the only river that I have unintentionally gone swimming on. It was a blast!
The New River is one of the Oldest Rivers in the world. Over time it has cut a deep gorge that boasts one of the highest bridges and some of the best white water rafting in the world. This photo was taken between 1995 and 1998 and was also taken by North American River Runners
The other thing that the Geology department gave me was the means to satisfy my travel bug. Before college, I had never been west of Michigan. I've now been all over the west. I've been from Mexico to Alberta, Canada. I have hiked to 10,500 feet and suffered up the Grand Canyon. It sounds like a really expensive hobby, but traveling isn't too expensive when you have the following things:
These tips can allow you to go a long way on very little money. If you have relatives or friends in the area you're traveling to if you ask nicely you may get a clean bed and a shower!
Pictures of Some of my more recient travels
In my last years of college I started Mauy Thai Kickboxing. It's a blast and it keeps you in great shape. It also is a great way to get rid of agression.
Since I moved down to Texas, I haven't found a close enough gym. One of the regular workout gyms offers it with aerobics. I have to check it out, but I'm afraid it will be some thing sponsered by Billy Blanks and can be bought off an informercial. I still have to check it out.
Aquariums.
Ok, now for my most expensive and addictive hobby. AQUARIUMS!!!!!
As I was leaving college I was out canoeing with one of my old roommates, Ev. He is on the Pics page I believe. I looked down and saw a whole bunch of crayfish doing their thing under the canoe. I hopped out and started catching them. My wife, then my fiancee, first thought I was nuts, then started catching them too. This wasn't the first or the last time she felt that way. We ended up catching enough to start a small aquarium... It all ended there, yeah right. It was the start.
I figured thhe crayfish would be a great little learning experience for our little guy and it was. They would eat feeders, plants, and occasionally themselves. Then we started keeping mbuna...
At the moment the largest tank I have up is a 55 filled with African Cichlids. Mbuna from Lake Malawi actually.
Here are a few pictures a friend took of the tank. It is planted, which is supposed to be impossible with mbuna. My shorts!
My next largest FISH tank is a 29. It has more of a Central American theme with a Jack Dempsey and Black Skirt Tetras. It also has a few Tiger Barbs that are about to move to an Asian tank-o-guppies. Some are there now.
My last tank with pictures taken of it is my wifes Red Eared Slider tank. It is a 40 breeder and has 2 RES turtles in it. I only have 1 pic so far, it'll have to do.
That's all for now. I'll add more when I get the chance.
Just in... Inteligent life has been discovered on Mars in the vicinity of the Happy Face Crater! Check out this "Official Video" taken on a satelite fly-by. The martians seem to be taunting the satellite.
